The Honorable Maureen Duffy-Lewis

Judge Duffy-Lewis began her legal career in a diverse practice, ranging from and emphasizing airline deregulation, aviation law, and family law. She later joined the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. Then-Deputy District Attorney Duffy-Lewis prosecuted major felonies and, while assigned to the San Fernando branch courthouse in the North San Fernando Valley, prosecuted the case of People v. Daniel Jenkins. This case was responsible for changing the bail laws in California. Daniel Jenkins is now on death row awaiting execution.

Judge Duffy-Lewis is a 2009-2010 Fulbright Award winner. She is presently teaching on her Fulbright at Sofia University Law Program in Bulgaria. Recently Judge Duffy-Lewis has been appointed a Visiting Fellow at the Bulgarian Institute for Legal Initiatives. Additionally she is currently studying and lecturing on behalf of the Bulgarian Institute in the following areas:

  • Judicial Transparency,
  • Court Administration,
  • Case Management,
  • Judicial Ethics,
  • and Mediation
