As Litigation and Discovery Counsel on behalf of Hewlett-Packard Company, Ms. Komagome implements best practices in traditional and electronic discovery processes in commercial, consumer class actions, antitrust and intellectual property litigation. Her expertise is developing strategic processes for effective, defensible, and cost efficient discovery management, with an emphasis on electronic discovery, in multi-jurisdictional litigation. At Hewlett-Packard, Ms. Komagome is responsible for working with outside counsel, electronic discovery service providers, document review vendors, and other corporate counsel to coordinate discovery across all Hewlett-Packard U.S. litigation matters. She also advises Global Records Management and Information Technology communities on information management and electronic discovery best practices, and other strategies for cost and risk management.
Ms. Komagome leads Hewlett-Packard’s Discovery Response Team comprised of Litigation and Discovery Specialists responsible for responding to traditional and electronic discovery requests in case-specific matters. She also chairs the Company’s Electronic Discovery Committee, which includes representatives from IT operations, IT information lifecycle management, IT and Global Security, Global Records Management, Corporate Risk, Legal, and the business units, that provides a forum for each committee member to represent the needs of their respective organizations. Ms. Komagome is responsible for setting priorities, milestones, schedules, and communication strategies to standardize litigation practices company-wide.
As part of Hewlett-Packard’s pre-litigation risk management program, Ms. Komagome also provides employee training on basic litigation principles, using records retention as a defensive mechanism, employee accountability regarding preservation obligations in and outside of litigation, and best practices regarding business communications.
She is leader in the electronic discovery community and a regular speaker at electronic discovery and record retention seminars. Ms. Komagome has co-chaired Counsel to Counsel Summit meetings on behalf of Martindale-Hubbell, spoken at General Counsel Roundtable forums, and is a faculty member for West Legalworks Electronic Discovery and Records Retention programs. She is also an active, contributing member to the Sedona Conference Working Group on Electronic Document Retention & Production, ARMA International, ARMA Houston, and Women in E-Discovery. Ms. Komagome serves as an Executive Committee member of the Corporate E-Discovery Forum and provides information management best practices to over 200+ in-house members representing 130 corporations.
Prior to joining Hewlett-Packard, Ms. Komagome managed electronic discovery obligations on behalf of a number of Fortune 100 clients in nationwide class action and commercial litigation. She previously practiced law at the law firms of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP, and Duane Morris LLP, focusing on electronic information management and integration of technologies in commercial litigation.
Ms. Komagome was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and received her B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley. She received her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in Philadelphia, where she was an active member of Law Review and received the Order of the Coif. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Komagome served as law clerk to the Honorable Spencer M. Williams in the Northern District of California. She is licensed to practice law in California and Texas.
